I was skeptical before I tried Christina's Airbrush Tanning. I had been a Competitive Bodybuilder for a couple years and I thought that color was the last thing I had to worry about. Every judge in the first competition I ever entered said I needed to improve my color. This was a surprise to me because even in winter my skin is a milk chocolate brown!
I set up an appointment with Christina for a consultation, in the back of my mind knowing that if it didn't work out I still had time to tan the conventional way. I had cause for skepticism before the appointment. I have seen dozens of Bodybuilders applying Pro Tan minutes before rejudging only to have it run off in rivulets halfway through mandatory poses. I read the directions for successful application of the competition color products and some companies advised beginning application tow days before competition. So at either end of the extreme I had the prospect of sweating off color on stage, or going several days without showering. NO THANKS!
At the consultation with Christina she explained the airbrushing procedures. She informed me that I would be receiving a trial airbrushing to see how my skin reacted to the color. I was to take notes of light areas and comment on the general appearance of the tan. I was very impressed with Christina's thoroughness. She generally seemed to take the pending competition as seriously as I did - maybe even more.
The trial spray looked great and I left Extreme Tans wishing that my first competition was sooner. Christina looked me over the next day and we discussed the areas that could use improvement. Using what we learned from the trial tan, the application for the first show two weeks later looked even better. I went home honestly feeling that my physique looked better that it ever had. I could see definition in my triceps and quads that I didn't know existed. The next day I placed 1st in my class and barely missed winning the Overall. A week later I placed 3rd in my class in a tough Pro-Qualifier. two weeks after that, all of Christina's and my hard worked paid off. I WON the Overall Champion in my 3rd show in 4 weeks!
I believe that Competition Airbrushing helped complete the look that gave me a winner's physique! Judges will not compliment your color if it is done well, however they will score you lower if it is not. Proper stage color is one trait that all champions share. Look at any IFFBB pro-show and it is rare to find a top 5 placer who is not dark. No matter what your natural skin color, Competition Airbrushing will improve your appearance. Tanning alone is not effective to achieve an even color, not the mention of the time you'll save not lying in a tanning bed.
